Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are all children living with Autism. They range in severity, from being limited verbally to higher functioning. All my students are on modified curriculum and are a few years behind their current grade level in terms of academic performance and social abilities. They require a low teacher to student ratio and are in a highly structured classroom to maximize learning potential. Most students are dually exceptional as many students have multiple disabilities. Our school is composed mainly of students that speak English as a second language, are on free and reduced lunch, and low socioeconomic status.
A child with Autism is just a puzzle waiting to be solved.
I get to spend 180 school days each year trying to figure out why they so certain things and how I can make them learn. With the help of my amazing paraprofessional we are ever trying to solve the mystery that each child walks into our classroom with.
My Project
The materials I am requesting are interactive learning tools used to facilitate the academic demands that my students encounter in my classroom. My students are multi sensory learners and need repeated attempts to learn and generalize new content. It is with the use of this technology that I can supplement my classroom teaching strategies to make my content come alive and become engaging for my students.
Through the use of these gaming sets, my students will master spelling, phonics, basic math skills, and be introduced to computer coding.
It is my hope that with the varied ability that this technology provides to all my students that they will be able to engage in meaningful learning activities tailored to their ability level. It should be the goal of every special education teacher to incorporate a high level of rigor to students who have a ranging level of disabilities.
