Can you say all the states and capitals in alphabetical order? Well, I plan to teach this and many more concepts through music in my classroom!
My students are eager learners who often feel their best while at school.
I teach in a Title 1 school where over 50% of my students are on free and reduced lunch. Many come from broken homes and find the most stability from the experiences they have in school.
My Project
I plan to use my scanner to scan in song lyrics to enhance our daily reading and vocabulary. We will use the Zune to download the songs and the speakers to enhance sound quality around my room. Often, students have a hard time hearing words in music played out of my CD player. I recently received a SmartBoard which will better enhance these activities. I can scan our weekly curriculum onto my SmartBoard using the scanner. I can also use the speakers to enhance the learning games played on the SmartBoard. The kids can interact with the words as they are listening to the music.
Young children are often auditory learners.
Research shows that many children better retain information when there is a song or gimmick attached to it. I can't think of a better or more exciting environment for my students than one that involves music and learning!
