My students need Heidi Songs DVDs to help them learn their sight words, letters, phonics, and math concepts through singing and dancing.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Short and long vowels, shape attributes, the difference between "too, to, two" and "their, there" and spelling at least 100 sight words. As first and second graders, there are so many concepts they all need to learn. Having these DVDs will give them another way to grasp these ideas.
My classroom consists of first and second graders.
We are at a low-income, public school where all the students receive free breakfast and lunch. Over 70% of our school consists of second language learners. This means that English is a second language for at least 70% of our students.
Although many of my first and second graders are just beginning to learn the English language, they are hard workers and do try their best in learning all they need to in first and second grade.
My Project
Imagine a classroom with students dancing, singing, writing and learning all at the same time. Having these DVDs will give my students the opportunity to learn language arts and math concepts through music and movement. These songs will provide a way for my students to remember how to spell sight words, help my struggling students remember which way to form the letters, learn the names of shapes and their attributes, etc.
Some students are able to learn through the "regular" way by listening and practicing. However, all my students will benefit from the dancing and singing. The lyrics to the songs are put to familiar music. Having familiar music such as Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star or Old MacDonald Had a Farm, makes remembering the lyrics even easier. And it's in the lyrics that teach the students how to spell and remember the difference between the words "their" and "there" or what a triangle looks like.
Being able to have these DVDs will provide my students another way to learn the many concepts they need to attain.
As a teacher, I want to provide as many ways as possible to help make these abstract ideas concrete.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
