My Students

I teach in the inner city of Detroit where most of my students are below the poverty line. My students live in hectic homes and school is the one place they can go for consistency sometimes. I want them to grow as much as they can and will always find a way to get them the materials they need to be successful. This goes beyond academic learning. With Coronavirus infection rates raising, we have been pushed back into virtual learning.

While we have resources we can do online, I am seeking more engaging assignments for my students to make it as enjoyable as possible.

My Project

I am continuing to work on providing the best books possible for my classroom library. I want my students to have an opportunity to have access to books that are engaging and also rich in text.

When students see characters that are similar to them in the text, they feel more connected.

This leads to also being more engaged when it comes to do independent reading. I also want to provide puzzles that the students can work on during free time to promote logical thinking as well as teamwork. When students learn to work together collaboratively, they learn how to learn better.
