This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Can you imagine sitting in a classroom and listening to your teacher while all of your classmates are speaking in a language that you don't understand? That's what some of my students are experiencing on a daily basis.
I have 22 wonderful first graders who love story time in my classroom.
Many of them are English Language Learners who speak a completely different language. Due to their socioeconomic status, they do not have access to children's literature in their homes. They do not hear English in the home, so they struggle on a daily basis in school.
My Project
The materials requested for this project include a portable CD player that will go in my listening center that could also be sent home with students to provide a chance to further their learning. In addition, The Story-teller Read Along Library provides books with CD components for the students to listen to. There are 12 well known titles in this collection that the students will listen to and read along with.
All students, especially the English Language Learners and those who struggle with reading comprehension, will benefit from the portable CD player and the Story-Teller Read Along Library.
Reading can be a challenge for all students at this age. With books on CD, students will continue to grow as readers and feel more confident as they listen and read along to these pre-recorded books. Your support will be greatly appreciated by the students in this class as well as children for years to come.
