My Students
I work with 25 students from a variety of backgrounds. Many come from low-income households and battle difficult circumstances. Rising above their difficulties, however, my students love to create, learn, and innovate solutions to problems.
I have been humbled to see the amounts of strength these students have that they use to overcome the barriers placed in front of them.
Teaching at a Title I school has its challenges. My students face many of their barriers daily as they confront many learning disabilities, physical incapabilities, and family economic struggles. However, the classroom has been a safe place for all of us to come together and learn, laugh, and grow. We conquer hard things every day.
My Project
This is my first year teaching at this particular school and I don't have a lot of resources available to me. My students thrive on the use of technology and demonstrate their unique voices as we use the Chromebooks to read, write, create, and share anything from commentary to musical compositions. However, much of our Chromebook use has been inhibited because of our lack of headphones.
In my classroom I like to utilize technology to encourage student participation and involvement.
By using resources like Google Classroom, Lexia, and Mastery Connect, my students have been able to learn from, respond to, and share with their peers.
With so many students working at one time, however, it is impossible to use the computers in the classroom with with its many sounds and volumes, especially when the sounds are important to the experience! Many of the computer's functions aren't able to be utilized effectively without the use of headphones and, as a result, some student learning has been compromised. If we were able to use our Chromebooks with headphones, many aspects of student learning would be improved upon and even enjoyed!
