Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach a first grade classroom of students with a variety of abilities. Many of my students have special needs and/or are learning English as a second language.
Due to a lack of language/vocabulary, my students need to be exposed to fluent reading and English on a regular basis.
Due to budget restraints, it is impossible for my school to purchase individual books on tape to enable my students to listen to fluent reading daily.
My Project
Because of the intellectual disabilities that my students face, and the lack of English vocabulary, my students need multiple exposures to language. There are many opportunities for me to read aloud to my students during the day; however, my students need more than a teacher lead read aloud. Having a variety of books to access on their own and listen to stories on CD would make a big difference in their language and vocabulary development.
Your donation will make a world of difference to all of my students.
Giving my students multiple outlets to access fluent reading, literacy, and new vocabulary will help them tremendously with their literacy development.
