Learning Through Listening: Audio Books for Reading Growth
Help me give my students opportunities to build their reading skills. Listening to a more challenging and highly engaging book, like Amina's Voice or Booked, while following along in the text, helps students grow as fluent readers.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Students at our school are energetic, enthusiastic learners, from the youngest in Head Start to our sixth graders. They have families who do all they can to support them and ensure they do their best in school. Both children and families: parents, siblings, and often extended family members, are all working together to help students succeed.
The majority of our students are first and second generation immigrants and are learning English, both our students and their families.
They are not only learning the standard content and curriculum in school but are also learning a new culture and language.
My Project
For many emerging readers, especially those who are struggling due to special needs or learning English, the books they are able to read are not especially interesting. The books they desire to read are more complex than their skills allow.
Having playaways, devices with one title recorded for audio listening, along with the book, offers students access to titles that interest them.
Listening and reading at the same time helps students learn new vocabulary and builds fluency. In addition, listening to these titles often supports students in reading other titles in the same series or by the same author independently.
