My Students
My class consists of kindergarten. first and second grade students with special needs. Kindergarten and first and second grades are the foundation to education. Our students learn in many different ways using all of our senses and multiple intelligences. We use a wide range of techniques to help all the students succeed no matter what their level. Most of the students come from families from a low socioeconomic status, with over 80% of our students receiving free lunch. Our school is also culturally diverse.
Our school is a caring community of successful learners, which can be seen through collaborative student, project based learning in and out of the classroom.
The students in my class love to work with hands-on materials and have many different opportunities to practice a skill before it is mastered.
My Project
My students love building with blocks. They will benefit and grow, socially and emotionally while using these materials. My students love to play games, and while playing these games, they will all be learning social skills as well. These will help them learn how to take turns, how to build and match colors. It will also help them to work collaboratively. It will also help them understand their feelings and help them to identify what they are feeling and express their feelings in an appropriate way. They can build on those emotions and learn to develop empathy. They can benefit from all of these just by playing with these Lego games together.
