I currently have 1st grade students in a self contained k/1/2 classroom. . This is our second year together as a class and we have made some amazing progress together, and are working towards a reading goal of a level C by the end of the year.
I may have a very small classroom, but we are the only classroom of our kind in the entire district.
The kiddos are fearless when it comes to technology, and often times teach me how to use my phone/the computer in ways I hadn't even known about. Recently, one of my students figured out how to use the speak to text feature on google to look up his favorite animal (Octopus), so I could read to him all about how they change colors and shapes. They are curious and engaging children who would benefit from a technology they are familiar with to help them reach their reading goals.
My Project
My students are extremely excited about technology! These leapfrog tablets will help motivate my students to read on their own throughout the school day. With the leapfrog pen and books, the students will feel a sense of independence in sounding out and discovering new words while they read.
These tablets will not only help my students reach their reading goal but will assist them with skills such as problem solving and mathematics in a fun and interactive way.
With the books and tablets, the students will be able to experience success on their own, and will be less likely to get discouraged when coming across trick words or new sight words.
