Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Don't you get excited to play board games? Paper and pencil can get boring every minute of the day. With fun board games that promote language and math standards, my students will be begging to play these games.
My students are 100% minority students who live in a low socioeconomic area in downtown San Jose.
The majority of them are on free and reduced lunch. Despite the challenges that they face, they love school. The school that they attend is a safe place for them, where they can be with friends, learn, and be themselves.
My Project
I am requesting board games that the students can use individually and in small groups to help reinforce skills and key concepts in language and math. The board games that I am requesting will specifically help the students practice their multiplication facts, learn new vocabulary, work on synonyms and antonyms, among other high power standards. Having little access to resources and educational games/materials at home, my students will truly benefit from these games because not only will we work on specific key standards in math and language arts, but we are also promoting cooperative learning. The students will learn to take turns, work together, and all at the same time have fun!
The academic and social skills that my students will benefit with these materials will carry with them into adulthood.
Children learn how to share and get along together through these types of resources. With these fun, new games the students will not only reinforce their knowledge of high power standards, but will also foster lifelong interpersonal skills.
