My students need various games such as: Pirate Island, Making Cents Money, Roll & Write, Pop & Add, Vocabulary Building, and Smath to improve their ELA, math and social skills.
Our class loves to learn in whole group settings but we also enjoy working together in small groups during interactive activities, which helps us to learn to be social with others.
We are an 8:1:1 class with students with a diagnosis of autism.
Our class is comprised of elementary level students. Our students have difficulties in learning academic skills but because of their autism, they also have difficulty learning how to interact with others. Our students have many challenges which make learning difficult. They have short attention spans, and it is difficult for them to sit for periods of time. They need to be shown a new concept in many different ways so they can understand it. One way is though games! The students are most engaged when they are able to work in small groups and have fun while they are learning.
My Project
The students will play "Pirate Island", "Roll & Write Word Game", "Vocabulary Building Game", "Target the Standards Reading Games", "Classic Games for Beginners", "Making Cents Money Game", "'Smath", and "Pop & Add Games" to increase their academic understanding in the area of mathematics and English Language Arts. At the same time, they will be completing these tasks with others so they will be increasing their social awareness and understanding while learning to interact with others.
These materials will help students increase their academic understanding; therefore, helping to further their education and quality of life.
They also will affect my students' future through socialization, being able to solve real world problems, being able to communicate, and appropriately interact with others.
With your help, my students will continue to learn different concepts through hands-on play activities as well as improve their social skills. Thank you!
