Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a reading and writing teacher in third grade.
I want to provide my students with opportunities to be excited about reading and school.
I want to be able to support them for the STAAR test as well as become independent learners.
A majority of my students come from low-income homes and lack the experiences to have prior knowledge to link learning to. My goal is to fill in these gaps to allow them to be successful in school and in years to come. They are a wonderful group that deserve the best.
My Project
I am cultivating a love of reading through meaningful experiences. I want our students to engage in books through authentic and engaging reading. I want to see my students smiling, nodding, actively engaged as they read.
Book clubs can give them the opportunity to defend their opinions, make predictions, and share their favorite parts of a book with others.
Book clubs allow students to be in a small-group setting with an adult and experience these things in a meaningful way. Not all students have access to discussions about books at home. Book clubs will allow for students to be in a small-group setting with other adults to learn and grow through the conversations.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
