Learning Through Art

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our typical day is not the normal day. We stay with the same teacher all day long, and we are the only self-contained 6th grade class at our school.

We are a bilingual, Spanish/English, self-contained classroom that is learning the core subjects as best we can.

Our school is located in Dallas. I am looking for ways to incorporate Art into our lessons as research has proved that learning with Art promotes learning.

My Project

We will use these art supplies to learn about line, color, perspective drawing and all things art as it is integrated into Reading or Math or Science or World Cultures or all subjects. So far we have used 1/4 of the materials on our school supply list learning about perspective line drawing and color using the Dallas skyline to work out math problems and color the buildings according to the code we made up. We need to refill our supply of pencils, markers, and paper.

One project we have done was to draw out the cell structure of prokaryote and eukaryote cells.

As you can imagine, these are hard words to say and even harder concepts to learn. I had them follow my drawings as I did them to explain the differences between the two and by the end not only did the students learn the concepts and understand it, but they worked on perspective line drawing as well.
