My students need Mr. Sketch Scented Markers, several books like: You Be You, Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear? Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See?, to read and create beautiful painted art.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach art to a wonderful group of students in Pre-K. When they see me in the hallway, they stop me and want to know what the next art project is.
We are a Title I school, which means most of my students receive free breakfast and lunch.
We are also a culturally diverse school. We have developed a recipe for success. We strive to help meet the needs of every student. We provide additional materials and health services. We provide backpacks and uniforms to students in need. We have academic clubs, after-school tutoring, and daily academic pull-out programs.
These additional programs have helped our students and they have done well on standardized tests. We have a well-rounded specials program where music and art have been brought back and supported after being cut. Having art, music, PE, and computers helps create the whole child and helps build academics and self-esteem. We are very proud of our students and their achievements.
My Project
My students really enjoyed painting rock fish from the story You Be You last year. They requested the book and want it for their art library. The story is about diversity and our school serves a diverse population. For the culminating activity, my students want to draw various colorful fish from the story using the Mr. Sketch Scented Markers requested. Those markers are their favorites.
I have also requersted books like: Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear?
and Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See?, to read and create beautiful painted art. Those books have predictable language and help increase reading fluency. I have two wonderful art lessons to incorporate with these stories.
The videos I requested will my students during December to inspire winter and holiday projects.
I truly hope you consider these resources for my amazing art students.
