Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Some students will just never get it." I teach all subjects to first-graders in a high-need community in New York, and my goal is for ALL of my students to "get it."
This year, my students will be learning about different people in their community for social studies. They will also be learning about animal diversity for science. While some students will learn from reading or listening to books on these topics, others will need to process the new information in a more hands-on way.
Using puppets and costume hats will allow ALL of my students to learn about these topics in a fun and engaging way. My students who are tactile and kinesthetic learners will have the resources they need to succeed. And everybody will have fun while learning!
Your help will ensure that all of my students have the same access to vital knowledge about the world around them. They will have an artistic medium to communicate their understanding. And, of course, they will enjoy themselves!
Nearly all students from low‑income households
