This is my second year teaching 5th grade science at a Title I school. This year, we adopted a new curriculum that is amazing, as it offers many hands-on learning activities to promote student learning. Unfortunately, for many of these activities, we are missing key critical components, which are needed in order to be successful. One of these components, which happens to be unavailable due to the price, as well as our school budget, are microscopes.
Having access to microscopes in our classroom would further enhance the level of learning that is able to be achieved by my students.
Through a microscope, students are able to more closely investigate changes to our world. They are able to better understand and, in turn, able to explain topics being discussed in class. Exposure to things not seen with the naked eye will help my students understand that there is a whole world out there, just waiting for them to explore.
I am very thankful for your consideration and hope that my students receive this opportunity. It is a classroom tool that will be used and enjoyed by my students not just this year, but in years to come as well.
