My Students
My classroom is a wonderful place filled with hardworking students and staff. Every day, I fall just a little bit more in love with their amazing hearts and smiles. Each child has an individual education plan to help them make progress on goals in functional academics, behavior, life skills, communication, and functional life skills.
My students are full of curiosity, energy, and incredible potential.
We focus on the positive and celebrate every success that they achieve. Each day I do my best to make sure that they have the necessary tools to succeed, but it takes a lot of equipment and materials to help meet their unique needs.
With the help of DonorsChoose.org, I am able to provide unique and engaging materials to help my students, who experience a variety of disabilities, overcome their challenges and let their abilities shine through.
My Project
My students are amazing, kind and keen to learn how the world around them works. They are very social beings who observe their environment and work hard to figure out how to be successful in the world they live in. The myth that individuals with Autism don't want to be social is the opposite of what is true.
When you teach students who experience ADHD, Autism, and other communication disorders, you need a large toolbox of materials and curriculum to meet the needs of a range of abilities.
The curriculum I'm requesting, Social Express, is a wonderful tool that provides videos that teach them a variety of skills that they need to practice such as how to ask for help, what to do when you want ask a friend to play or how to deal with a friend who wants you to do something that is wrong.
I am also requesting items to help meet their sensory needs such as a hammock swing with stand and a star projector. These items will help them regulate their bodies when they are overwhelmed by the sights, sounds and smells of the world around them. Finally we need copy paper and card stock to create visual supports and structured routines that help students learn new routines.
