This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our classroom is very diverse - in academics, in culture, including language barriers. However, as diverse as we are, one way I have found to reach all of my students is through the language of mathematics.

My scholars take charge of their learning by recording their own data and using it to choose appropriate activities to practice each day.

One way the scholars really hone in on their skills is through math games. Not just, random, mindless computer games, but serious, standards-based, challenging, interactive math games. Some games are with a partner, some are only meant for one. Either way, scholars use their test data to practice every day the standards they know they are weak in. They also can choose enrichment activities for areas they are strong in.

My Project

My scholars will benefit from these learning centers because the centers are all common core aligned and based on standards that my scholars practice everyday. This is an organized way for them to choose a game to help them practice a skill they are weak in, or a skill they need to be challenged in. Scholars learn in different ways. Sometimes they don't understand the skill in the way it was taught. If they play a game, it reinforces this skill and sometimes leaves a scholar with an "Ah-ha!" moment.

The best part of this project is that my students will learn so much while having fun at the same time.

Funding this project will allow my 41 scholars to hone in on their math skills which will further develop their number sense and challenge them to be better mathematicians everyday.
