In kindergarten, the most important foundational skill we teach is the alphabet. The majority of my students enter kindergarten without having any knowledge of the letters and their sounds. Obviously, learning occurs at a more rapid rate when students are introduced to the letters in various ways and various modes.
Research has shown that students who learn the letters and their sounds early, learn to read earlier and are at less risk to have reading issues in the future.
Having hands-on activities to reinforce teaching the alphabet will make an enormous difference in my classroom!
