This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Many students at my school oftentimes come to kindergarten needing to catch up a bit, since their parents are busy working and taking care of siblings. Continuing to survive through the COVID-19 Pandemic, these families have been hit even harder than previously. I want to make sure the students coming to me are taught in the most effective ways possible. Before COVID-19 hit, my students were lucky enough to have technology to use during centers. As our district plans to have in person learning happen this fall, my students will need materials for small group learning. I’m hoping to provide my students with high-quality technology-based educational tools that will help them learn well and be prepared for first grade.

My Project

As in-person instruction resumes this August, it is unlikely that my classroom will have any technology to use, since it has all been sent home for distance learning. I am hoping to get Amazon Fire Tablets to assist my students in learning to read, write their letters, and master the foundations of math. I plan to use this technology in several ways during small groups: firstly, students will be able to listen to books read to them as part of a listening center. Studies have proven listening to books helps children learn to read. Furthermore, we will be using educational websites like Starfall, ABCya, and endless numbers to help reinforce what they’re learning in the classroom. This technology would also make learning more engaging and allow students to work independently during our center time when I am working with a small group.
