We teach in a K-12 rural school in Montana. Our whole school has 106 students total. I teach in the kindergarten room and my teaching partner teaches a first and second grade combo class. We are submitting this proposal together for the students.
Our K-2 classes often combine supplies in order to get the most out of the materials we have.
Both teachers in the K-2 rooms are within our first four years at the school and have been building resources and curriculum to benefit our students. We have found that sharing supplies and resources happens on a daily basis because we don't have enough to supply both classes with these materials. This leads to disruptions in class when the other kids come in and politely ask for supplies. By fulfilling this project, we will be able to have enough supplies to get the best learning in both our early elementary classrooms.
These resources will greatly benefit our curriculum. Students use markers and colored pencils on a daily basis. This means their lifespan doesn't last a whole year with this many students using them daily. We use many coloring pages and art projects in all subjects. First-grade and second-grade standards use inches as measurements and need a ruler. The rulers also provide straight edges for many art and writing projects. Being as both teachers are newer, our classroom libraries are limited. The school uses Accelerated Reader (AR) program and kids are asked to earn points each quarter. With limited books, some kids are struggling to find books at their level they have not read before. The oil pastels create different art projects related to our reading and art curriculum. These materials will allow us to advance our curriculum without the lack of materials.
