This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Some concepts are hard for children to understand, especially when you are a student with a learning disability. Imagine a world where you can work with your hands and solve problems using a STEM kit that is on your level.
I teach 13 first and second graders in a self contained classroom in a Title 1 school in Lower Manhattan.
They are extremely inquisitive and want to learn more. It is extremely difficult to explain how certain things work in the world. Since they all learn differently, its important to teach using their preferred modality, their hands.
My Project
The STEM bundle will provide all the grade level-appropriate tools we need to integrate STEM into our curriculum and help students explore important concepts hands on. The students will create their very own chain reaction courses. The students will be introduced to the design process and problem solving will be encouraged through beloved fairy tales.
Having this kit will open the minds of my students in relation to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.
They will hopefully learn how things work together and one day, perhaps they will be our engineers.
