Learning Sight Words

Help me give my students hands-on opportunities to learn sight words. By having my students fish for sight words their interest in reading the words will increase. They will further their reading skills by creating sentences.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Chavez's classroom raised $498

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I really love how excited my students get when they read words. They love learning to read and they express their pride and growing confidence each time they learn a new word. My students are a special group because they support each other’s learning and thrive to learn more daily. So far my students have only been working with pencils, papers, and books to learn sight words. The learning materials that I have chosen will give them the opportunity to learn sight words in fun and interactive ways. My students’ supportive and communal attitudes towards learning will advance even further when they work together in small groups to play these various sight word learning games.

My students will thrive by having a different hands-on group activity to do daily in small groups that will provide them with repeated exposure to sight words.

On Monday’s they will fish for sight words and read them. Tuesdays they will use the seashell games to read sight words to their friends. Wednesdays will be for snapping letters to create and read sight words. Thursdays the students will use the sentence building game to practice using sight words in sentences. On Fridays my students will wrap the week up with reading non-fiction decodable books together.
