My Students

Though my students come to our school for a variety of reasons, most of my students also come looking for hope.

Some lack confidence in their own ability to learn.

Some fear that school will not present any new challenges. Others feel that they just don't "fit" into the box of their other learning institution(s). Whatever the reason, we aim to engage ALL students and search for those wonderful "ah-ha" moments.

Just recently, I had a student leave class with a big grin on his face and say to me "Mrs. Beck, I LOVED science today. I never knew learning could be so much fun." That makes all the extra hours worth it, knowing that at least ONE student has found joy in learning and hope that education can be an amazing journey

My Project

I firmly believe that students need to be allowed to move while learning. Students who are 9-10 years old have so much wound up energy that needs an outlet.

"It is impossible to educate the mind without involving the body; Learning is thinking and movement integrated."

In my classroom, I integrate muscle memory activities as often as possible to help with the retention of what is being taught. The students are taught actions to remember everything from sentence structure to math rules to geography locations.

These fidget supplies, especially the wobble stools, will also allow a way for students to move when doing quiet work, taking tests, or completing written work, without disrupting others around them.
