My Project
Our classroom is special education classroom or a resource room. My primary grade students come to our resource room where students for additional support in reading, writing and math. Covid-19 has unfortunately impacted how students are able to take part in learning centers as classroom supplies were unable to be shared at ease. With many students learning doing online learning, a hybrid model and returning to in person, not all students were given the chances to build strong foundational skills over the last two years. These foundational skills in reading and math impact much of their success in the classroom as well as their confidence.
Children who are confident in their skills are more likely to engage in whole group instruction, allowing them to learn through visual lessons makes learning more fun and less scary for them.
When they are given the chance to learn in a fashion that looks like a game, it removes the educational barriers. Learning should be fun, visual, multi-sensory approach all while engaging our minds. Spelling and reading can be challenging for students using tubs with visuals and blends or every letter of alphabet it will help them build connection to help develop their letter/sound recognition. These hands on manipulatives with beads, letters, counters and numbers are the perfect activities will help my students build their foundational skills in reading and math in a way that empowers them to try.
