Learning Science by Doing

Help me give my students science experiment supplies, informational books about people of various ethnicities and races, new dry erase boards to display their math practice problems, and headphones to use for the RISE test.

My Students

My students are hardworking, kind, and ready to learn! Our class has lots of energy. My students come from a variety of backgrounds. I have students who are learning English as a second language. I have students who have learning disabilities. I have students who struggle with focusing during the school day.

My students are special because although they come from varied backgrounds and abilities, they are willing to work together to make the world a better place.

Our world is a crazy place right now, and I know my students have been impacted by the many changes, uncertainties, and fear that has resulted from the pandemic and civil unrest. However, I know they can overcome and learn from their experiences today to make a better tomorrow.

My Project

I have gathered lots of resources to use in our science curriculum. We are implementing the new Science standards and using FOSS. We needed more supplies to offer students the ability to have smaller groups to really dive into the curriculum. Students have missed out on actually seeing and interacting with science curriculum in action due to COVID-19. There were lots of restrictions in place, stress on teachers, and science became more of a spectator sport. I want to change that with these supplies.

I have also included many books that will transport students to a different perspective.

These books will help students understand different times in our history, different racial and ethnic cultures, and different points of view. I believe it is important to offer such experiences for our students to help them become culturally inclusive and supportive of others.

I also know that Covid-19 has brought up a lot of social and emotional struggles with my students. I have included books and supplies to help students build self-confidence, recognize their strengths, and learn how to self-regulate their emotions.
