My students need learning resources that go along with the curriculum we use. Materials need to be presented in different formats and hands on materials work best for my preschool students.
My students are between the ages of 3 to 5 years. There is a lot of movement. Their little bodies are not made for sitting in a chair for long periods of time.
We explore through play and by hands-on experiences.
It is hard to sit and listen, we need lots of visuals to learn. Not only do we need lots of visuals, we need different visuals to keep things interesting.
I work with preschool special education students. We learn in many different ways. Every day is something different and we overcome many challenges.
My Project
Last year the preschool program that I work in started a new curriculum. However, as a second year teacher I did not have a lot of hands on materials to go use along with the curriculum. I've learned that students work best with repetition and learning by doing.
Now that I am a third year teacher, I would like to build upon my classroom materials to allow my students to learn in many different ways.
There is only so many resources that I can make before the students lose interest in what we are learning about. Some of the favorite activities last years were the ones where the students could participate with their hands such using a sink and float kid that I had purchase out of myself.
When working with students of a variety of learning styles, I understand that the topics we learn about need to be presented in many different learning styles.
