Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are ready to take over the world. They come to school each day ready to learn. These kids are able to put aside their struggles at home that may hold them back.
Our school is 98.4% free and reduced lunch.
Our entire district is considered 70% poverty. We try very hard to offer these students all of the resources and advantages that other schools often receive in more affluent communities.
Although my students face many challenges that are unimaginable to most, they still greet me each day with a loving smile and eagerness to learn. They never let their circumstances bring them down, and they thrive as best they can when given the resources and opportunities to do so. They make my heart full and teach me every day of the year.
My Project
The majority of my students are ESL learners. I am trying to provide them with fun, hands-on activities to learn their letters, sounds and other phonics skills with automaticity. Especially with covid and limited opportunities to share tools, these items will give my class enough learning tools for each student to have one.
These hands-on activities will reinforce literacy skills for my students to help support them in having long term success in language skills.
The magnetic builders for letters will help with automaticity in letter recognition. The rhyming sort will help build the foundation for literacy skills in reading. The alphabet cards will support my English Language Learners with learning sounds and letters and how they go hand in hand.
