My Project
I teach gifted students in grades first through fifth in eleven different elementary schools. The schools are all in West Virginia. My students come to my class for enrichment and to gain problem solving skills.
I teach goal setting skills with my students that they use throughout life.
This project consist of three-ring binders and portfolio folders. Using a three-ring binder, my students file their class work and also set goals every nine weeks. They periodically look through their data notebooks to determine where they are with their goals and if they need to adjust or set new goals. They also look at their past work and can visually see their improvements. They get excited when they see a past activity and it reminds them how much they enjoyed the activity. Each student has their own data notebook and these notebooks serve as a "scrapbook" of the school year. I send the data notebooks home with the students at the end of the school year.
The portfolios are used to communicate between the teacher, parent and student. Keeping an open communication helps foster a student's education.
