My Students
My students are special because they have a infinite amount of energy and thirst for knowledge. They love learning! They come in every morning with smiles on their faces ready to work. They come from a wide variety of families and homes due to the fact that they are from a high poverty neighborhood in a high poverty city.
My students are young and want to learn but sometimes need help maintaining focus and remaining on task.
We move around quite a bit and my lessons are mostly hands-on, partner activities of high interest but sometimes I need help. I think my students would benefit from new technology such as Bouncy Bands and Space Balance Ball Seats.
My Project
These new seating options will allow my students to take their seats with them to work with a friend or in a group. I can picture students sitting at their desks and lightly bouncing while reading. I know these materials will help foster a calmer classroom environment because children will be able to move their bodies but stay in their own area and not disrupt others. The seats will be placed around the room for students to use as they feel necessary. The rest of the class will have the bands on their desks or chairs so everyone has the opportunity to move, not just those who cry out for help with disruptive behaviors. Obviously the students will love them because they are seven and what seven year old doesn't want to bounce?
