Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The Students, I serve are from all over the world. They have immigrated to the largest urban district in our state. They are a very diverse group of individuals. Several different languages are spoken by my students and their families. The amount of prior education they have received differs from student to student as some are coming from rural communities, refugee camps and others from cities around the globe. Our school is a Title I school in a low-income area of our city; I have twenty-eight students in my classroom. Free breakfast and free lunch are available to every child in our building each day, during this difficult time the city and school are still trying to provide meals .

My students are very flexible, eager and inventive learners.

The majority of my students are below grade level and do not have the tools at home to catch up with their peers. They would benefit greatly from a bag of supplies that they carry back and forth as schooling moves from home based to school based.

My Project

It is necessary for students to have their own supplies at home or that they can carry back and forth. Putting together a bag of learning supplies would be so helpful.

Flexibility is the word for the year, we need to be ready to learn virtually or in person at a moments notice.

Students need pencils and pencil sharpeners as well as dry erase markers for working on their white boards.

We prepare weekly for what may come. However, the need for things as simple as markers or a pencil sharpener can cause learning to halt.
