The classroom is so different from when I was a student. Our ever changing and shrinking world has created a need for students to have access to the Internet and up-to-date technology and software.
I am the first-grade teacher to 20 students in a small East Texas town.
A majority of my students come from economically challenged homes. Our school is mainstreamed where students with special needs are in regular classrooms with the other students. We have almost 600 students in our school.
My Project
We would use the new computer to Skype with classrooms in other states, while expanding our knowledge of the United States. We would also use the computer for research and investigate topics such as science, word parts, poems, literature, social studies, and much much more. My students work in stations daily while I am working in guided reading groups to teach my students to read. They would use the computer for online tests and to improve students' academic skills with online learning and play math and reading learning games while in stations. This project is vital because my students need access to current technology and materials to use in stations.
My students also need to learn about the technology as a source of investigation.
A new computer in our classroom would also allow students to make up missed tests without leaving the classroom and missing instructional time. This tool would allow us to meet these needs.
More than half of students from low‑income households
