Help me give my students alternative seating positions using the Portable Lap Desk to fulfill their need to move, while still actively engaging in their education.
Our team of special education professionals engages with students in K-8 with diverse needs that often cannot be met in the classroom and through academic instruction. When students come into the resource classroom, they have access to instruction, accommodations and modifications that meet their individual needs. Some of these needs can simply be met by offering them alternative seating and standing options for work completion.
In this classroom, we build an opportunity for students to recognize their needs and learn strategies that will lead to their success.
When you walk into the resource classroom, our hope would be to see students achieving different forms of movement through alternative seating options while actively engaging in their education.
My Project
As an adult, have you ever had a difficult time sitting in a work meeting in a hard, plastic chair, while expected to be engaged in what you are learning? In today's word, adults have access to a multitude of different seating options. Students, however, are often limited to the basic school chair seen in classrooms around the world. For some students, this hinders their academic progress, as they are more focused on their need to move than their need to learn.
Your donations will allow my students the opportunity to find a creative seating or standing option that works for their individual needs, which in turn will increase their focus, drive and overall ability to complete the rigorous educational standards that have been set.
