Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am the 4th grade Math teacher, and I teach 3 classes. We have a variety of minority students attending. Our school is mainly composed of Latino and Caucasian students.

95% of the students are Latinos and they come from low income families.

This school uses the 90/10 model. This means that the lower grades learn 90% in Spanish and 10% in English. As the students get older they start to learn more English. By sixth grade all students should be completely bilingual. Students in their last year will be taught using 50% English and 50% Spanish. There is a big demand for enrollment and a huge waiting list. I want to mention that the parents of the students that attended last year were very satisfied with the school and the model they use. Most students are coming back and kindergarten is completely full and has a long waiting list.

My Project

In a Math classroom there can be lot of different levels between the students. Some times is hard to individualized the teaching.

Ipads will help me to individualize student learning.

Students will be able to use the Ipads to work in their Math level and to reinforce what we are doing in class.

We will have several apps to practice their multiplications,fractions, geometry, measurement and data,problem solving... I will use the Ipads to make intervention with students. They will be able to use the Ipads in small groups or one to one.

This way each student will receive the instruction they need and it will make learning Math more fun!
