My Students
My students are from a small town in South Carolina, yet they are full of potential and big ideas. They are bright, inquisitive, and hungry for knowledge. We are a Title I school receiving free breakfast and lunch. My students would benefit from access to resources to help increase their success in our newly established distance remote learning platform.
The current events in the year 2020 have forever changed the needs of my students.
With more virtual learning taking place, my students need manipulatives to help them understand math. If we were in the classroom, they would have access to them. Hands-on is essential when learning math concepts.
My Project
The use of manipulatives is almost a daily activity in my classroom, especially in math. Using manipulatives gives my students the opportunity to see math in a new perspective. These manipulatives will allow students to work hands-on with math strategies they are thinking about. At home without the opportunity to have a physical teacher support them, it is even more important to provide students with the materials to help them be successful in learning new math concepts.
Math should not be just a pencil and paper; math should be fun and engaging through hands-on materials especially while learning from home.
Math manipulatives give the students opportunities to learn through play which has shown to be the most effective learning environment for my students. Math gives us hope that every problem has a solution.
