Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students with Intellectual Disability love to learn and little successes of learning throughout the school year makes them happy. The requested items here will lead to better retention and application of knowledge.
After learning the short vowel sounds and CVC words, they need to learn to read sight words, long vowel sounds and sentence construction game tools.
In math, students would venture to place value, addition and subtraction, application of patterns in tic-tac-toe and chess. These tools will lead to sustaining of motivation to learn, will satisfy their sensory needs and their visual appeal will make them more engaged for learning to succeed. The senses of sight, hearing and touch will aid my students with special needs to augment their learning with these educational games and tools.
Some of the games will be used for rewarding of free time to enhance learning and building skills such as monopoly, sorry, etc. Some are for social emotional learning, and calming sensory needs such as mandala coloring book, sensory toys, etc. A mindfulness corner of the classroom will be dedicated for these materials for students to utilize when they need to.
