My Project
Being a proud and passionate teacher of 31 years, I've seen many changes to the educational process. As things are ever-changing, I must think outside the box. After twenty years of teaching science, I was thrust into teaching reading. To my surprise, many of my students are several grade levels behind. I am challenged to teach 40 students; six are on grade level, nine are one grade level below, twenty-two are two to three grade levels down, and three of my six graders are at a first-grade level.
The Making Connections Small Group Kit will help build reading comprehension in small group structures to get the students engaged and excited about working towards grade-level reading.
The buzzers will provide a fun challenge of competition by creating game questions for the reading comprehension books. The hand2mind versatile answer cases will be added to an existing learning station with only one case that five students share. The hand2mind answer cases provide immediate feedback for literacy passages which will help students instantly know how to improve.
One of me and forty of them, I have to think outside the box and develop methods to make learning memorable for my babies. Since teaching is a "work of heart," I must simultaneously be creative and critical. In doing so, it gets expensive for teachers, so help is needed to push my passion into purpose. I aim to academically grow my students by combining "old school teaching" with "new school learning." Reading is fundamental, but I want to put the FUN in FUNdamental. This would make a big difference in their classroom reading experience. My students will benefit from customized small group learning stations with comprehension books, game buzzers, and hand2mind answer cases, making the learning comfortable, inviting, enjoyable, and, most importantly, memorable.
