Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is known for assisting Refugee students and most of our English Learner students' living conditions should not be a deterrent to limit students an education. Every student regardless of their status should be welcomed and know that school is a safe haven where they can come to learn and develop life saving skills and friendships. All students are encouraged to begin their day with a warm smile and a positive attitude before getting our day started. By greeting each student with a fist bump and with a cheerful, "Good Morning!" lets a student know that we are going to have a rewarding learning time.
I am a 4th grade teacher at a Title One school in Las Vegas where one hundred percent of our students receive free breakfast, lunch, and most need to take a weekend backpack.
Despite some challenges and hardships, every students should begin their day by feeling loved and confident to learn and try their best. Students want to be recognized as individuals and that school is key to have an opportunity so that they can be the first to attend college and/or trade school and be prepared to a face the future.
My Project
My students need math and reading flashcards, markers, whiteboard graphic organizers, and reading comprehension supplies that will aide in building their background knowledge to help them make connections.
Most students are English-language learners that hae no prior background knowledge from primary language to assist them with learning at grade level.
With these supplies they will build confidence in being ready to learn and have opportunities to practice with their peers whole enjoying their new learning in their daily lives at school. Most students struggle with being hungry and unclean clothing, so helping in building their confidence in their learning will increase their willingness to come to school everyday.
