My Students
In my classroom, I see kids who hate to read. They are not on grade level and are striving to be each and every day. I want to provide a relaxing environment where kids can come in and read during their leisure time and class time alike.
Our school is one that has won many awards and honors for high achievement, but there is a small population who I see who need additional support and attention.
My students want to be on level with their peers, and will be with some extra work. The majority of my population of students is considered ESOL or special needs.
My Project
If we get our furniture for the Learning Lounge, student will be provided with a safe and comfortable environment to read and relax with a good book of their choice -- or with a required novel assigned to them by their English teacher. Whatever the circumstances, I want to build an environment where kids WANT to read.
Whenever a teacher provides a relaxing atmosphere, the stress and chaos involved with learning something new tends to subside.
When it comes to reading, if a student struggles, anything (environmental or otherwise) can add to the stress of not feeling adequate.
