Learning Literary Lingo

My students need 13 book titles including "We're Going on a Bear Hunt" and "Poetry for Young People" that will help teach them literary devices such as alliteration, onomatopoeia, and personification.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Daly's classroom raised $172

My Students

Onomatopoeia, personification, alliteration… What are those? My students need to know those terms and other literary devices. Not only is it important for our state standardized test, but this vocabulary is also important for students to discuss literature and think about texts critically.

Over 80% of my students receive a free or reduced price lunch at school, which means that over 80% of these children come from low-income families.

Consequently, books are not as readily available to them as they are for students in wealthier communities. I would like to change that.

My Project

These books will allow me to provide examples of onomatopoeia and other literary devices in a format that will be easy for my students to understand. They will also be used for literary devices scavenger hunts, which is where students will be asked to find examples of personification, hyperbole, alliteration, etc.

With the help of these books, certain state standards will be easier for me to teach and easier for my students to understand.

Using these books in my teaching will also help my students to read, think, and write about texts in a critical manner by using the correct terminology.
