This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a magnet secondary high school that focuses on marine and environmental science. Students interested in attending must go through an application process. Once accepted, they are part of a diverse, gifted, and motivating learning environment.
Students at our school are eager to learn and get involved in their community.
They jump into a rigorous schedule that includes AP classes and Dual Enrollment classes, to get a better understanding of our world in hope of contributing to their society.
My Project
The year of 2020-2021 is the year of distance learning. This year our classes are mixed, which means some are virtual while others are hybrid. For an effective and inclusive learning environment, I want everyone on Zoom, regardless of location, to participate during lectures and discussions. This is difficult with small hybrid classes because if I or anyone of my physical students has their mic on (without headphones), there is audio feedback, which disrupts instruction. The solution? Apple Airpods, which are comfortable wireless headphones so students in the classroom can ask questions out loud without the fear of hearing the loud audio feedback. Additionally, because they are wireless, I would be able to step away from my computer to help the physical students and still answer questions from those on Zoom.
Please help me provide my students with this inclusive learning environment.
