Learning Life Lessons Through Literature and Conversation

Help me give my students their own personal copy of the memoir Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom.

My Project

My students are high school seniors from a rural community in South Carolina. They are thoughtful, funny, and curious about the world—but like most teenagers, they sometimes struggle to slow down and reflect on life’s deeper lessons. Many are preparing to leave home for the first time, and they are grappling with big questions about identity, purpose, and legacy.

At this pivotal time, I want to offer them something meaningful—something that speaks not just to their academic minds, but to their hearts.

I am requesting 100 copies of Tuesdays with Morrie—one for each of our graduating seniors. This book tells the true story of a former student reconnecting with his old college professor, who is dying from ALS. They meet on Tuesdays to talk about what truly matters in life: love, work, family, aging, forgiveness, and more.

To bring the book to life, we are also inviting guest speakers from our community to come talk with students about the same themes. These may include local veterans, counselors, business leaders, and others willing to share their wisdom and lived experiences.

At the end of the unit, students will conduct their own in-depth interview with a person of their choosing—a family member, mentor, coach, or neighbor—and ask them questions similar to those Mitch Albom asks Morrie.

This project is about more than reading a book. It’s about:

* Building empathy and communication skills

* Strengthening intergenerational connections

* Encouraging self-reflection before graduation

* Creating space for honest conversations about life and purpose

In a world that moves quickly, Tuesdays with Morrie reminds us to pause and listen. With your help, our students will carry that lesson with them long after they leave our school.

Thank you for supporting the next generation of thoughtful, compassionate adults.
