My Students
My biggest challenge is having up to date articles and information connecting historical texts with current events. Students use any extra time to research articles they are interested in relating to our lessons. Often times, the computers fill up fast.
It would be wonderful to have a small notebook computer to allow students to create a variety of digital products to enhance their learning in class.
Some students in our area are high poverty and computers are a luxury for them. This would allow students to gain more exposure to creating and manipulating information with their own creative ideas for presentation and sharing.
My Project
Students are very mobile in our classroom. They are active learners and engage with social studies and reading in a very real sense. Students know the role in their classroom and what resources they have available to assist their learning and expand their knowledge base.
After we venture to a computer lab for lessons, there are normally a few kids that haven't completed the project. Students will be able to work together daily on enrichment activities on the laptop or finish incomplete work from the computer lab.
Fifth graders are so eager to learn and allowing them time on computers to learn information, digest it and then manipulate it into meaningful information is priceless.
