Learning Language with Die Cuts in PreK/K Special Education

My students need a Fiskars Fuse Creativity Starter Set, die cutter adapter set, circle die, frame die, and butterfly die cutters for art and communication opportunities.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Taylor's classroom raised $544

My Students

How many cuts could a kid cut if a kid could cut with die cuts? (How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?) Our class could really use a die cutting system to jazz up our visual communication, student displays, and artistic projects.

My students are a wonderful group of 2-6 year old students with special needs (pre-K and K grades).

They have varying disabilities and require special education to give them the best start in school. My early childhood special education students have been identified as having developmental delays, autism, and other learning disabilities. They attend a public elementary school and range in age from two-six years old (preschool and kindergarten-aged). They are so enthusiastic about learning and love coming to school. Our school is a high-poverty, Title One school in an urban neighborhood. Close to 90% of our entire school population participates in the free or reduced lunch program. Many of their families struggle to make ends meet. The area surrounding the school is known for crime and violence. For many of our students, the school is a safe-haven from the dangers of the streets.

My Project

Having a die-cut machine will enable our classroom to have beautiful and inspiring displays for learning language and communication. Nearly all of my students have language delays and everyone will benefit greatly with better visuals in the classroom. I am requesting the Fiskars Fuse Creativity System Starter Set, die adapter set, and several dies (circle, frame, and butterfly) to get us started. I hope to request other dies and expansion packs in the future to get maximum use from this project year after year. The die adapter set will allow us to use dies and plates from other die cut and letterpress systems including LifeStyle Crafts, Sizzix, Stampin Up, Provocraft, Spellbinders and Accuquilt. This will make it easier to borrow from crafty teacher or scrap-booking friends when we only need a particular die infrequently, and allow us greater options in finding a variety of dies to meet our needs.

Having great visuals is so important to my preschool students with special needs.

They can also participate in using this creativity system to create special art projects with paper, ink, fabrics, and other media.
