This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students walk into the classroom every day ready to learn and grow. They love to read and learn new things through books and technology.
I teach at at Title 1 school in Richmond, CA, where 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Even though my students face many hardships outside of school, they want to become scholars so they can have a successful life one day. They are creative, fun and energetic, and they deserve the best resources.
My Project
At our school, we are teaching our students respect, kindness, and empathy. We have implemented various ways to teach kindness, but we are in need of more books and supplies to help promote healthy and welcoming classrooms.
We are going to create a teacher library where teachers can check out a book they want to read to their class to promote these core values that we want to instill in our kids.
We also want to give teachers some recommended books that we believe will help them in their teaching practice. We want it to be part of our school culture that all students are welcome and respected, and we feel that teaching through books is a great way for kids to connect and relate to the characters. In addition, we know that students sometimes need some redirection and a place to go in the classroom to help them calm down and refocus on their work. The kinetic sand and stress balls will be used in classrooms when students need a moment to take a break and refocus before joining in the classroom activities. Finally, the chimes will be used in a few classrooms where teachers are in need of a way to get students' attention in a calm way.
