Learning Job-Related Life Skills With a Snack Cart!
Help me give my students the chance to start up a "Snack Cart" and learn job-related Life skills, while also providing some much-needed motivation for everyone in our building!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Providing collaborative speech services to the students in our Life Skills special education class encompasses teaching "ADL" or 'activities of daily living' skills, as well as job-related skills to help improve the chance of independence once they're older. My goal is to infuse these targeted skills - conversations, taking orders, following specific directions, using manners - with a focus on improving building morale. The days are long, the expectations are high, and the gap from COVID is blaringly evident...and our amazing educators and students are already feeling overwhelmed and burnt out (and it's only the first month of school!).
I'd like to begin a "Monday Motivation Snack Cart," where the Life Skills classroom students can sell snacks by filling out order forms in their individual record books, and learn to count money and provide change, when necessary.
Please help me give my students the chance to learn job-related Life skills while also providing some much-needed Monday motivation for our school! All of the monies made from the snack cart will be used to purchase more snacks to keep the cart running full-speed ahead all year!
