Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students arrive ready and eager to learn and achieve their personal best. These sixth graders are friendly, diligent and inquisitive, and are active participants in their own academic success. As a magnet school, our student body is diverse in many ways. Over 50% of our students live below the poverty line and often struggle to attend school due to transportation, family responsibilities, or lack of basic physiological needs. Additionally, we have more English Language Learners than most schools in our state. The rest of the student body is made up of students from surrounding towns from various racial and socioeconomic backgrounds. Free breakfast and lunch is served to 100% of our students daily. Still, we are a resilient body of learners who strive to be honorable in our actions as we aspire to be ambitious in our scholarly endeavors. This focus allows our melting pot of students the opportunity to develop the skills and character needed to be responsible, respectful, and productive citizens in the global community.

My Project

Classes sometimes feel long, the clock ticks and ticks, yet students are giving their personal best effort. Help me reward them with sweet treats and pencils to bring a happy ending to a job well done! Not everything in life is rewarded, but effort and thoughtful contributions in reading should be one of the choices that garner a delightful end.

My students look forward to a sweet treat that says, "Job well done today!" Something sweet maybe a special pencil, but it may also be your favorite color Starburst or a baggie of Sour Patch Kids.

Either way, this "Sweet" ending says that I see you and all of your hard work. It also says, "Keep trying, because it's ok not to know, but it's not ok not to try!"
