This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a low-income, high poverty community. For many of my students, this is their first school experience. They are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. They receive free breakfast and lunch at school.
My students are loving, energetic, and enthusiastic learners.
The majority are learning English as a second language. Parents are not able to help at home with school activities because they work long hours, and many do not speak English.
I need your help to provide my young scholars equal access to materials that will allow them to grow academically and shine individually even through distance learning.
My Project
Almost a year ago Distance Learning became the new normal. Since then, my students and I have been getting creative to keep the teaching/learning going. The Apple Pencil will be a wonderful resource for my teaching because it will open up new creative possibilities in all subject areas. Young learners require consistent and explicit modeling to learn concepts.
I will be able to model correct pencil grip, proper letter and number formation which are all imperative for fine motor development.
In an ideal classroom setting, I am able to use the whiteboard, assist with correct pencil grip, and use document cameras to model/teach. Now, I must adjust my methods of teaching all these skills virtually.
Also, please help me get ink for our printer. I use the printer to print materials that enhance my teaching.
