My Students

One of the joys of childhood was playing board games. Technology is great, however my kids have lost the social element of learning due to the independence and isolation of computer learning. Let's bring back social interaction and fun with traditional board games.

My students are ten year old 5th graders that live in the inner city.

They are of diverse backgrounds and speak a variety of languages. They attend the local public school in their neighborhood, which acts as a safe haven and place for extracurricular activities and fun.

My Project

The resources that I have requested are board games and a set of headphones. It is extremely important that students have balance in their lives. Students are under a lot more pressure academically and the joy of learning is being replaced with standards and test. I make a genuine effort to ensure that my students have a great balanced school experience. I want my students to learn as well as have fun. Most of my students don't get an opportunity to play outside for many reasons. The use of technology has caused many of my students to play alone. Many of them don't know how to play with real people. They aren't familiar with many of the classic board games that I remember being so much fun to play with family and friends. These board games will provide an opportunity for my students to socially interact in a fun way. They will learn to communicate effectively and problem solve. The headphones will allow students to engage in digital play as well.

This project is important because a big part of education is developing healthy, happy people.

Children learn most of life's lessons through play. I want to bring that component back to my classroom to provide students with another great opportunity to learn while having fun!
